Chief’ s Message
On behalf of all the dedicated members of the Arlington Police Department, I am proud to present the 2016 Annual Report. Over the past year, our society has experienced tremendous adversity and challenges. I have seen firsthand these social frustrations and the impact it has with our employees as they deal with new emerging threats to officer safety.
With officer fatalities and felonious ambushes on police on the rise, 2016 was a sad and tragic year for our profession. Out of 64 officers shot and killed in the line of duty last year, 21 of those were killed during ambush attacks. The officer fatalities on July 7th in Dallas hit especially close to home as we grieved the loss of our North Texas colleagues. Despite these tragic events, the nobility of policing will always rise to meet whatever challenge that we face as a nation. We will remain undeterred and will provide police services to our community with the utmost compassion. I want to take a moment and brag on our cops and on how well they serve our community on a daily basis. From our support staff and investigative personnel to our front line officers in our neighborhood, our focus continues to strive to provide policing services in a procedurally just and fair manner with integrity and compassion. Despite our efforts, there is not a day that goes by where we do not need the assistance of our community to help us make Arlington the best city in America.
