V Volunteers
• Each year, we hold an annual awards appreciation banquet to honor the service that volunteers provide to our community.
The spirit of volunteerism in Arlington continued to grow in 2016. With volunteer partners, the Arlington Police Department introduced new programs and celebrated outstanding achievements. Volunteers also advanced their training in 2016, completing a crime prevention design course to help more property owners create and sustain a climate of safety.
In March 2016, APD hosted its annual Volunteer All-Star Banquet, celebrating the contributions of citizen volunteers across the city. To show their support, Arlington officers served dinner. Volunteer of the Year Awards were presented to 10
outstanding achievers.
Just in time for the busy summer tourism season, the department piloted a new program called Ambassadors in Motion. Working closely with officers from the Entertainment District Tourism Unit, trained volunteers were deployed to fun places to help make the summer experience safer for everyone. In its first season, volunteers patrolled Lincoln Square and the Levitt Pavilion.
In 2016, volunteers who enjoy taking their dog out for a walk, worked with the department to launch the Dog Walker Watch Program. Citizen volunteers are attending training programs to learn how to observe and report suspicious activity they might see while taking the family dog out for a walk in the neighborhood.
Volunteers logged 36,457 hours in 2016.
The Arlington Police Department hosted three information and training sessions to introduce the new Dog Walker Watch Program.
Members of the Arlington Clergy and Police Partnership joined the community to host four Peace Prayers at Police Districts across the city.
