The Property and Evidence Unit provides an essential function to the department. Items are routinely booked into the property room in support of criminal cases, found property, or safekeeping. Property room space management is largely an issue of personnel efficiency and less of an issue of warehouse space. In 2016, the unit was able to reorganize the property room in a manner that allowed for better space management. In doing so, the property and evidence unit exceeded the previous year rate of destruction for items stored within the property room. These changes made the property room more efficient than ever before.
The Crime Analysis Unit had an amazing year with the revamp of management processes to ensure district commanders receive crime statistics in a usable format that assists with resource allocation and deployment of personnel. The unit was also a pioneer in assisting with the merger of data during the transition from the Uniform Crime Report( UCR)
to the National Incident Based Reporting System( NIBRS), which will be used to report crime data internally and externally.
The Arlington Tactical Intelligence Unit continued to support field personnel and commanders by providing realtime incident information as events unfolded. Officers monitor communication channels and can be contacted directly by patrol and investigative personnel. As the unit expanded its capability, it developed investigative support checklists for workups on major investigations. The unit pushed out several officer safety bulletins and risk assessments to the department. The unit also managed the department’ s crime tips program.
