22016 Spotlight- President Obama Visit

The eyes of the world descended on Dallas, Texas during a memorial service for the five police officers killed during an ambush in July. President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, and former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, along with other dignitaries were on hand for this special occasion.
The Dallas Police Department in coordination with the United States Secret Service turned over all security related to the presidential escort and detail to the Arlington Police Department. Police Chief Will Johnson mobilized hundreds of officers from APD to assist in this large endeavor. The security of the President is one of the highest honors in which any agency can participate.
Officers handled the presidential motorcade from the airport, internal venue security at the memorial service, and perimeter security in the immediate vicinity of the venue and surrounding streets. The department was all hands on deck, as operations had to continue back in Arlington as well during this event.
The memorial event and tribute was concluded with no major security issues or threats. Arlington officers were honored to be in a position where they were able to assist Dallas PD who were still grieving the loss of several of their own.
