footprint in community based policing.
Law enforcement began in 1894 with
the appointment of a City Marshal. By
1950, APD had nine paid officers on the
force. The premier agency of today is a
well-educated driving force of sworn and
non-commissioned staff members.
APD has been nationally accredited
from the Commission on Accreditation
for Law Enforcement Agencies since
1989. The department serves more than
370,000 residents and approximately
6.5 million annual visitors that frequent
sporting events, world-class shopping,
and elegant dining venues.
