The department balances the
needs of officers and safety
while critically evaluating which
tools will be beneficial to field
personnel.
Computers have become
an essential tool for officers on
the street. Each patrol vehicle
is equipped with a mobile data
computer (MDC) that allows
officers to
perform
criminal
check
inquiries
and receive
real-time call
details. These
computers
offer interconnectivity with dispatchers and
fellow officers in the field. The
department currently has 226
MDCs deployed.
Cars are also equipped with
digital video recorders (DVR) that
activate during certain criteria. As
