athletes. Some officers workout
alongside teens during their
training, while others stand on the
sideline during a football game
offering words of encouragement.
The department expects to
expand the program to other
athletic events throughout the
school district. Coaches play a
vital role in the success of the
initiative as they routinely
talk with officers and
identify at-risk students
who might need a pat on
the back to get them motivated to
excel in school and on the field.
