TECHNICAL SERVICES DIVISION 50 T • • • • • • • he Technical Services Division includes: Crime Scene Unit Tactical Intelligence Unit Property and Evidence Unit Court Bailiffs Misdemeanor Warrant Unit Crime Analysis Unit City Jail The Arlington Tactical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) supports field personnel by providing realtime crime data and services to enhance officer safety. Detectives monitor radio communications and can be contacted directly by patrol officers to assist in a variety of ways. The unit monitors threats locally, regionally and abroad and publishes public safety bulletins and conducts risk assessments for major events in Arlington. Crime tips are also managed by ATIU. In 2015, the department received 886 tips through Tarrant County Crime Stoppers. Reward money was paid out on 132 of those tips and we currently have 243 active tips that are under investigation. Narcotics violations are the most common tips the unit receives. Detective Josh Gowins serves as the coordinator for Crime Stoppers and publishes wanted notices on the Cash for Crooks website, social media “Who’s that Wednesday,” and a weekly Most Wanted list. The department made 42 arrests based upon these postings, including 12 for unsolved crimes and 30 for wanted fugitives. Arrests based solely on tips that come in from Crime Stoppers totaled 158 last year resulting in 386 cases cleared. The City Jail processed 14,636 prisoners in 2015. The jail serves as
