The Arlington Tactical
Intelligence Unit (ATIU) supports
field personnel by providing realtime crime data and services to
enhance officer safety. Detectives
monitor radio communications
and can be contacted directly by
patrol officers to assist in a variety
of ways. The unit monitors threats
locally, regionally and abroad and
publishes public safety bulletins
and conducts risk assessments for
major events in Arlington. Crime
tips are also managed by ATIU.
In 2015, the department
received 886 tips through Tarrant
County Crime Stoppers. Reward
money was paid out on 132 of
those tips and we currently have
243 active tips that are under
investigation. Narcotics violations
are the most common tips the
unit receives. Detective Josh
Gowins serves as the coordinator
for Crime Stoppers and publishes
wanted notices on the Cash for
Crooks website, social media
“Who’s that Wednesday,” and
a weekly Most Wanted list. The
department made 42 arrests
based upon these postings,
including 12 for unsolved crimes
and 30 for wanted fugitives.
Arrests based solely on tips that
come in from Crime Stoppers
totaled 158 last year
resulting in 386 cases
cleared.
The City Jail processed
