POLICE DEPARTMENT January Arlington’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration reached a milestone in 2014. It commemorated 25 years of MLK celebrations and is making it one of the largest MLK events in the country. Police personnel attended events over the 4-day weekend. July The Arlington 4th of July Parade is the largest in Texas. Motor officers led the parade route. It turned out to be a beautiful day filled with parade floats, marching bands, and our distinguished Honor Guard. 04 February Snow blanketed North Texas and put a smile on kids’ faces around Arlington. Officers joined in on the fun as well and APD published several photos on social media to remind motorists to drive safely while enjoying the weather. August Hometown Recruiting kicked off the inaugural class. This program allows high school students who have a desire to become an APD officer to earn credits toward a criminal justice degree at UT Arlington`, and receive a guaranteed interview upon successful completion of the program. March Make-A-Wish partnered with APD to grant a superhero birthday wish for Edgar Campos who had been battling a life-threatening illness. Officers from around the department came out to ensure his day was mighty special. September Operation Graduation partners teachers, administrators, community members and police officers together to encourage children to get their high school diploma. The program seeks to reduce the dropout rate and put education back into the hearts and minds of young people.
