In addition, major retail corridors are
patrolled to ensure the city’s economic
“vault” is protected based upon the
amount of sales tax revenue that is
generated. Included in these areas
is the Parks at Arlington, reported to
be the 5th largest mall in the country.
The Arlington Highlands, an open air

There is a dedicated section of officers
housed in the South Retail District
Unit (SRDU) that focuses solely on
these vibrant business areas. SRDU
patrols the business districts in cars,
on bicycles, and foot patrols. Many
departments try to replicate the
foundational pieces that make this
unit so successful. Protecting this
economic engine is vital to retaining
good businesses and returning
shoppers to our retail and restaurant
areas. By reducing crime in our major

A special focus on apprehending
violent crime repeat offenders was
accomplished last year. Officers
monitored known criminals
through social media and took
effective enforcement action when
criminal acts were committed. The
department also worked with the
U.S. Marshal’s Office to identify
the most prolific offenders and remove
them from our streets.
The first annual Trunk or Treat
Halloween event was held at the
South District Police Substation with
over 600 citizens in attendance. This
provided an opportunity for families
with kids to meet officers while at the
same time receiving a Halloween treat
from Arlington’s finest.
