NorthDistrict
The North Patrol District serves a
diverse population of residents,
businesses, and entertainment venues.
Beat officers patrol neighborhoods
and streets, respond to calls from
community members, and serve as
the first point of contact for Arlington’s
many visitors that come to see a ball
game, ride a roller coaster or
attend a concert.
The Viridian Project is one of the
largest undeveloped tracts of land in
far North Arlington that will eventually
be home to several hundred houses, a
multi-purpose center, and new school.
The North District is responsible for
patrolling this vast area of expansion
as development continues.
The North District continued with
participation in the “Rec” after-school
program held at North Davis Church of
Christ in partnership with the Arlington
Independent School District and UTArlington. The “Rec” as it is referred to
is an after-school outreach program
that allows youth from Lamar High
School a safe place where they can
go and enjoy refreshments, physical
activity, and obtain tutoring services.
A lucky hound named “Chance”
became a media sensation in 2014.
Chance, a pit bull with a heart of gold,
escaped from his owner’s business
and began roaming a neighborhood
in North Arlington. Residents, terrified
of the dog based upon the breed,
telephoned 911 and reported an
aggressive dog on the prowl. When
officers arrived, they determined this
wayward dog was not a threat at all
and scooped him up and took him to
Animal Services until
the owner could be
located. Within a
week of Chance being returned to his
owner, he had escaped again. This
time however, the owner surrendered
him to Animal Services and claimed
that he was just too much to handle.
Sgt. Gary Carter, one of the officers
who initially responded to the first call
a week prior, seized the opportunity
to adopt the four-legged friend and
named him “Chance,” thereby giving
him a second chance on life.
The story quickly circulated on the
department’s social media platforms
and before long, Chance was an
international media sensation that
netted over 12 million views on APD’s
Facebook page.
