POLICE
DEPARTMENT
PoliceExplorers
The Arlington Police Department is home to Explorer Post 602. Police
Explorers, affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life
Program, helps young people who have an interest in pursuing a career
in law enforcement realize those dreams. It assists with developing youth
into mature, caring and responsible adults.
The Arlington post is one of the oldest posts in Texas being established
in the mid-seventies. Each year, Explorers assist the department by
volunteering their time at various community events and activities. Some
of these opportunities include crime prevention initiatives and fairs,
directing traffic, vehicle burglary prevention efforts, and parades.
Explorers also attend monthly meetings where they learn about law
enforcement and hone their skills for regional and state competitions.
They are also allowed to ride with an officer on a quarterly basis to see
what police work is all about.
Each year, our Explorers train to compete against other Explorer Posts
throughout the area, including the state and even the nation. The Texas
Law Enforcement Explorers Advisors Association (TLEEAA) holds an
annual competition that allows teams to test their learned skill sets against
one another. Recognition and awards
are bestowed upon the top teams.
In 2014, Explorer Post 602 took
top honors at several competitions
including 2nd place overall out of 96
teams in 6 of 8 events at the annual
TLEEAA competition. They were
awarded 1st place in Active Shooter
incidents and 2nd place in handling
domestics in Harris County in August.
During the Battle at Big āDā in Dallas,
the team was awarded 3rd place in
Burglary procedures.
School Resource Officer Jeff Lee, a
26-year veteran of the department,
has led the Explorer Post since 1999.
