POLICE DEPARTMENT Shield A Badge with a Prayer celebrates 25 years A national program that started in Arlington with three local police officers and their parents reached a milestone this year with the 25th anniversary of “Shield a Badge with a Prayer.” The three sons of Peter and Bernadette Henz are all still police officers – one in Arlington and two in Fort Worth. The parents would pray daily for their sons’ safety and eventually the program was expanded to include other officers across the nation and Canada. Return of class ring after 20 years Detective Eddie Green was able to reunite a lost high school class ring from 20 years earlier to the rightful owner. After arresting a pair of suspects in a burglary, the ring was recovered and returned. The heartfelt reunion was captured by local media and put a big smile on the victim’s face. ACAPP, Crime Prevention Unit help special needs man with basketball dreams Crime Prevention Officers Kim Fretwell and Maria Kuehling learned that a basketball goal had been stolen from the home of a young man with special needs. They shared that information with the Arlington Clergy and Police Partnership (ACAPP), who decided to forgo their annual Christmas party and instead use that money to purchase a new goal for Orey Green-Jalar. He was ecstatic about the gift. The donation and Orey’s tears of joy were captured on video and shared with local media. 18
