POLICE DEPARTMENT Expanded social media presence with Nextdoor Arlington APD joined hundreds of virtual Arlington neighborhoods when the department joined Nextdoor. This afforded Crime Prevention Officers an opportunity to communicate relevant information to residents in the forum where people are already communicating with one another. First Responder Appreciation Day In October, the Dallas Cowboys football team honored all First Responders during pre-game and halftime ceremonies. More than 500 police, fire and EMS personnel from 34 agencies across Texas, including federal officers from the United States Border Patrol, were on hand for the special event. It was a ceremony filled with pride and compassion for the people who make daily sacrifices to keep our citizens safe. This was the second First Responder Appreciation Day in Arlington and a tradition we hope will grow each year. Chief Johnson appointed IACP committee chair In December 2014, the International Association of Chiefs of Police appointed Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson to be the chair of the 2015 Civil Rights Committee.
