departmental awards Victim Services - Teaching Excellence Award Victim Services Unit Supervisor Nikki Rosenboom was presented the 201314 Field Liaison Award for Teaching Excellence. The award was presented by the UT-Arlington School of Social Work for Rosenboom’s commitment to mentoring, training and instructional excellence. 2014 Most Innovative Use of Social Media Award The Police Department earned the Most Innovative Use of Social Media Award for a third consecutive year. The department was recognized for its ability to showcase officers interacting with visitors and fans through its tourism based policing model. Arlington police officers can be seen on Facebook and Twitter, giving stickers to kids and posing in photos with fans. The award was presented by the Center for Digital Government. In 2012, the department won the award for the tweetalong, which provides followers with a virtual ride-along via Twitter. APD was recognized in 2013 for its video program, “Inside APD.” Extra Mile Award School Resource Officer Barry Samples was one of eight people recognized at the First Rate Living Luncheon for his leadership in community service. For receiving the Extra Mile Award, Officer Samples was provided a $2,000 grant to give to a non-profit of his choice, which was the Arlington Police Explorers Post 602. Woman of the Year The American Association of University Women presented its 2014 Outstanding Woman of the Year Award to Officer Stephanie Gillespie for the work she does to promote equity for women and girls impacted by crime and violence. As the department’s Community Support Manager, Officer Gillespie works to address the systemic issues surrounding homelessness, juvenile delinquency and mental health. 13
