site visits • APD hosted the Frisco, Texas Police Department’s command staff at our management accountability meetings that are held twice a month. During these meetings, executive officials were able to obtain a better understanding of how geographic policing is managed in Arlington. June 2014 • Desoto, Texas Police Department conducted a site visit at APD to learn how to start a social media presence for their department. June 2014 • Cedar Hill, Texas Police Department conducted a site visit at Arlington PD headquarters to learn how to replicate APD’s successful social media strategies. APD’s Media Office assisted their agency in starting their online presence with Facebook and Twitter. July 2014 • Norman, Oklahoma Police Department conducted a site visit to replicate best practices with social media platforms based on APD’s reputation and stature. Norman also visited with APD’s Personnel & Recruiting Unit to learn what APD was doing in reference to recruitment efforts. July 2014 • Dignitaries with Brazil and the Kingdom of Bahrain met with APD’s Crime Prevention Unit for a presentation on community policing and citizen engagement efforts. July 2014 • Midland, Texas Police Department visited Arlington PD to gain a better understanding on how our Media Office is organized and how APD interacts with followers on social media. November 2014 • Minneapolis, Minnesota Police Department sent representatives from their media team to visit Arlington and learn more about APD’s social media philosophy. December 2014 • The Center for Policing Equity came to Arlington to speak with executive staff on research proposals that will benefit the criminal justice community. December 2014 11
