POLICE • The Office of Community Oriented Policing Service & Institute of Governmental Research commissioned a study on how police departments continue to operate efficiently while still carrying out community policing values amidst challenging economic times. January 2014 • McKinney, Texas Police Department conducted a site visit with APD to learn about public information officer trends and how to manage traditional media. January 2014 D os H The Arlington Police Department has a large international footprint and is sought out from around the country by other agencies that look for best practices in law enforcement operations. The department is routinely asked to participate in research projects that will benefit the criminal justice community. Visit e t i s S DEPARTMENT ted by AP • In partnership with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, an Iraqi Delegation consisting of Erbil Police Directorate came to Arlington for two weeks and observed our police operations and how we interact with the community. February 2014 • Dallas, Texas Police Department conducted a site visit to observe how APD conducts firearms training as they began to revamp their procedures. March 2014 • The board of directors from the International Association of Law Enforcement Planners conducted a site visit with APD in preparation for their 2015 annual conference to be hosted in Arlington. May 2014 • In coordination with the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, APD hosted a delegation from Poland consisting of law enforcement officials. The officials were able to see how Arlington conducts citizen engagement and applies community policing principles. May 2014 10
