Community Support
The Community Support Bureau is made up of multiple community engagement units that focus on making our
residents and business partners part of the overall public safety team. The training center, recruiting efforts, and media
office are also housed in this bureau. Citizen engagement efforts are a top priority to ensure a shared responsibility for
public safety.
Youth Services
The Youth Services Division is
responsible for public safety at
Arlington Independent School
District campuses through our
School Resource Unit. In addition
to public safety, there are several
community engagement programs
that allow our youth to become
involved with the department and
put them on the right track.
• Serve 6 high schools, 12 junior
highs and 46 elementary schools
• Participate in mentor programs
such as the Police Athletic League
(PAL) Camp, High School Citizens
Police Academy, Police Explorers
and Seguin Men
Training Center
The Training Center is responsible for
preparing new recruits for a career
with APD and ensuring that our
officers continue to enhance their
training and skills through annual inservice training.
• Taught 23 recruit officers during
the basic police academy

• Hosted 26 in-service training
courses for officers ranging from
professional police driving to LGBT
community relations
• Hosted 14 outside training courses
that other law enforcement
agencies in the region could attend
Personnel & Recruiting
This unit is responsible for
coordinating the hiring of new
officers, conducting background
investigations, recruiting the most
talented candidates,
and managing
personnel needs for
the organization.
In addition, the
unit manages the
department’s volunteer
program that is vital for
our community.
• Hosted 2 open house
sessions for potential
employees, one of
which focused solely
on female candidates
• Participated in 7 college recruiting
events
• Hired 23 officers for a new
academy class
Community Support Unit
The Community Support Unit
serves the most vulnerable in our
community and seeks to address
the systemic issues surrounding
homelessness, juvenile delinquency,
mental health issues and repeat
offenders.
• Community partne
