RANGE MASTERS
The Arlington Police Department’ s Range Masters have been instrumental in advancing the department’ s operations with their 44 years of combined expertise. Their contributions extend far beyond annual weapons qualifications, addressing critical and often unseen tasks.
In 2024, Firearms In-Service Training emphasized the use of ballistic shields, equipping patrol officers with essential skills through live-fire drills using pistols and carbine rifles. This training ensures officers are prepared for high-stakes situations. Another key achievement was revising shotgun qualifications for officers authorized to carry carbines, which identified surplus shotguns that were traded for red-dot sights, advancing the department’ s firearms modernization. The Range Masters meticulously handled logistics, from budget management to implementation.
Their behind-the-scenes efforts are equally vital. After Officer-Involved Shootings, they ensure operational readiness by organizing replacement weapons and ammunition. They also test-fire seized weapons, collaborating with the Crime Scene Unit to collect evidence for the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network( NIBIN).
Additionally, the Range Masters maintain the department’ s firing range by constructing training aids, managing ammunition supplies, and forecasting needs. They provide crucial training to adjunct instructors and ensure alignment with departmental standards.
Through their dedication and behindthe-scenes efforts, the Range Masters ensure Arlington PD’ s workforce remains exceptionally trained and equipped.
