AYOR
MAYOR’ S MESSAGE
Here in Arlington, we have a saying that“ we’ re better together.” Together, we made the dream of a National Medal of Honor Museum a reality, establishing a permanent symbol of service and selflessness in our city that will inspire generations to come. Together, we hosted one of the most successful All-Star Weeks in MLB history, laying the foundation for future success as we prepare for the INDYCAR Grand Prix of Arlington and FIFA World Cup next year. Together, we planned, funded, built, and opened ACTIV, a new state-of-the-art rec center for adults ages 50 + that had long been a priority for our community.
When we come together, there is nothing we can’ t accomplish. That’ s also evident when we look at public safety. We’ re blessed to have one of the finest police departments in the country. The Arlington Police Department( APD) is constantly innovating and developing new strategies to combat crime. They remain steadfast leaders in community policing, earning the trust of our residents, businesses, and stakeholders. They support the community and the community supports them. So it should come as no surprise that together, we experienced yet another reduction in crime over the past year.
Overall crime fell 5 percent in 2024, continuing the trajectory we’ ve been on for the past several years. Crimes Against Persons, some of the most violent offenses, were down 1 percent, marking the second straight year of reductions in that category.
I am pleased to see these trends move in a positive direction and am proud of all of the work APD has done to achieve these outcomes. As you read this Annual Report, I hope you also take great pride in your police department and desire to be a strong community partner to them. Because only together can we continue to make Arlington better.
