JANUARY
The Arlington Police Foundation purchases new patrol bikes for APD officers .
MARCH
The Mentoring Arlington Youth ( MAY ) program kicked off at Sherrod Elementary . The program seeks to cultivate an environment that mentors , monitors and motivates youth in the program .
APRIL
Officers and professional staff participated in the Victory Over Violence Fun Run 5k . Victory Over Violence is an annual fundraising event benefitting many of The Women ’ s Center ’ s anti-violence initiatives .
FEBRUARY
Academy Class # 63 , the first class of APD ' s Lateral Academy , graduates . Lateral recruits have prior law enforcement experience working for other agencies and go through a condensed academy to become an APD officer .
JUNE
The now traditional “ We Care a Brunch ” brought together APD and community partners in efforts to assist unsheltered individuals in the community . Guests were provided with supplies and were connected with housing assistance resources .
MAY
APD hosted the Youth Mentoring Summit . This event paired APD employees and other adult role models with 100 students for an afternoon of team building , problem solving , conversation and games .
