CHIEF ’ S MESSAGE
The Arlington Police Department believes strongly in relational policing , using the power of connections to build trust between police and community . In 2021 , we implemented new opportunities to further strengthen these bonds , and were able to resume many of the community and school initiatives already seeing great success .
One new program , working in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Clubs , brings officers and youth together to give kids an inside look at what APD does . The kick-off included young people learning about the department and meeting with our Mounted and Aviation Units . This program hits close to home for me . I was a Boys & Girls Clubs kid growing up and it shaped me into the person I am today . Through this partnership I hope we can have the same lasting , positive impact on the young people in our community .
Another new program was Shop Talk , where officers visited local barbershops and met with patrons to discuss their ideas , concerns , and receive feedback . The department also participated in the National Faith & Blue Weekend event , finding ways to work together around our many commonalities instead of being divided by our differences .
Lastly , I created the Employee Advisory Council ( EAC ) shortly after assuming my role as Chief of Police . The primary objective of the EAC is to introduce ideas that enhance the quality of work life for department personnel and increase public confidence in the department through improvements in community outreach , employee recognition , training , and the use of technology .
As you look through this report , you will learn so much about the incredible work being done by the men and women that work at this department . You will see examples of selflessness , courage , and compassion , as well as how we embrace technology and innovation to improve the way we serve our community .
