SHOWCASE : OPERATION CONNECT
Operation Connect is an ongoing public safety initiative the department launched in April 2021 . It was developed with 3 goals in mind : 1 . Reduce Violent Crime 2 . Reduce Serious Injury and Fatal Crashes 3 . Build Positive Relationships in Neighborhoods
Accidents , DWI Accidents , and Fatality Accidents . A total of 13,894 accidents were included in this analysis . Data was compiled from February 1 , 2018 through January 31 , 2021 . Seven zones were created throughout the city and data was reviewed bi-weekly to ensure officers were having an impact in the targeted areas .
To accomplish the mission of Operation Connect , Command identified the most likely areas to encounter criminal activity and major car crashes using crime analysis and intelligence-led policing . Officers were assigned to patrol those targeted areas to engage community stakeholders , maximize subject contacts , and take necessary enforcement action as appropriate to reduce criminal activity .
Target Zones were identified utilizing Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety . Zones were created based on map overlays of the following calls : Assault , Burglary , BMV , Drug Offenses , Motor Vehicle Theft , Robbery , Weapon Law Violations , and other offenses .
