WINTER STORM

February 2021 brought unprecedented snow , ice , and freezing temperatures to Arlington and North Texas . Conditions caused power outages , and loss of electricity , heat , and water . Schools and businesses closed , and residents worked diligently to keep themselves and their families safe while bridges and roadways iced over and became extremely dangerous .
Through it all , APD officers continued to serve the community , responding to accidents and other necessary calls for service . We also saw several instances where officers showed tremendous heart . When a concerned family member from out of the area asked officers to check on their elderly mother , those officers not only stopped by and ensured the woman was okay , but brought her food and water they purchased with their own money so she wouldn ’ t have to venture out in unsafe conditions . During the storm , a cow escaped from its enclosure . Several officers braved the cold , wrangled the animal , and returned it safely to its home . They learned the cow ’ s owner was dealing with some health issues and had fallen behind on the maintenance of the enclosure , so they helped him make repairs to ensure the cow could not escape again .
