Mental Health
Officers responding to calls for service with a mental health component continue to present challenges to law enforcement . In most cases , there is no criminal violation . Officers try to diffuse volatile situations and de-escalate encounters where persons are exhibiting an agitated state of mind and may be suffering from a mental illness or episode .
In some cases , subjects are taken into custody on a Notice of Emergency Detention by the officer if the person is determined to be a danger to themselves or others .
These charts present a 5-year analysis on the number of times that individuals are taken into custody on a Notice of Emergency Detention and transported to a Tarrant County medical facility that specializes in mental health treatment .
