My bedroom was previously the back porch. It had brick walls and no heat. NEW WAYS TO LOOK FOR NEW TALENT: Recruiting is like putting together a puzzle. I am constantly thinking about how to build our bench strength and where to place people now and in the future. Since Embrey is a development company, it’ s important that we hire the right person for our current need and train them so they are ready to take on their next opportunity within our expanding Denver portfolio. KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT: Nothing. I try to be as prepared as possible for the things I can control, and I don’ t worry about things that are beyond my control. Life is short. Take the trip. COFFEE OR COCKTAIL: My favorite cocktail is the vodka soda but it has to be served with a lemon wedge and not the traditional lime. The drink is a lot like myself, it is simple, clear, transparent and gets the job done! FAVORITE NON-RESTAURANT DENVER SPOT: I live near Cheeseman Park which is an easy walk and I also pass through the park on the days that I walk to my office. The views give me inspiration, and the peacefulness gives me time to reflect. On weekends I love to meet friends there for volleyball and the occasional BBQ with friends. NEXT BIG THING IN APARTMENT LIVING? I think in ten years we will see apartment buildings with a lot less parking garages. I really can see the day when nobody owns a car. Everyone will use a car service such as Uber or a car sharing program. Particularly in the urban core and downtown where space is a premium and most essential services are so close to apartment communities. SUPER HERO POWER: My super hero power is the ability to see far into the future. It is a lot like x-ray vision, but instead of seeing through objects, I can see through time. I have a great vision and ability to use what I see. MOST SIGNIFICANT TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IN THE INDUSTRY: For small owners like myself who are now able to use accounting software and property management programs that the large companies have been able to use for many years. Finally, the price point is dropping so that it makes financial sense for the use even if you have under 100 units. YOUR FIRST APARTMENT: I have been living in Capitol Hill neighborhood from the time I graduated college. My first apartment was one of the many historic building in that area. $ 600 for a 2 bedroom top floor apartment with mountain views. I still remember it didn ' t have air conditioning and slow elevator. KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT: These days I am sleeping very well, but my biggest concern is local city government being intrusive into my business. There are too many bureaucrats that want to tell me how to run my business. ERA OF LIFE TO RE-LIVE: Doesn ' t everyone want to be a kid again? Oh, how I would love a carefree summer with nothing to do and nothing to worry about!
