WHO HIRED YOU INTO THIS BUSINESS, AND WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM TODAY? WHO HIRED YOU INTO THIS BUSINESS, AND WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM TODAY?
Rhonda Hansch. Still friends, stay in touch via Facebook and phone.
YOUR “GO TO” INTERVIEW QUESTION? Who do you consider to be your Mentor
that had the biggest impact on you, and shaped your life /career into
what it is today? How? WHAT CAN DEVELOPERS DO DIFFERENTLY WHEN DESIGNING A
PROPERTY? Think about the Service side more. Ask for input at the design
phase. Build a shop! AN AMENITY YOU WISH YOU COULD INVENT? Robotic
Concierge. IF YOU COULD LIVE IN ANY SITCOM, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE? Seinfeld. FIRST
GUEST ON YOUR TALK SHOW: Donald J. Trump MOVIE TITLE BEST DESCRIBES YOUR WORK
LIFE: Catch Me if You Can! HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE PEOPLE? Make sure they
understand they are valued and appreciated. FAVORITE TEAM BUILDING
ACTIVITY? Scavenger Hunts, Escape Rooms. THREE FAVORITE APPS: Google
Earth/Maps, Facebook and Uber. BIGGEST PET PEEVE? Dishonesty CAREER
HIGHLIGHT: Started out on site level, now get to support staff at multiple
sites in multiple Regions. ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST: European vacation
with my Boys. Wayne Turnbull and Leticia Pacheco hired me as a tech back in 2004
at The Marks Apartments. Wayne is a good friend of mine and is
retired from the industry. I have him to credit for teach me the right
way to fi x things. Leticia Pacheco was the last Property Manager I
worked for before I began my new role. She is also a good friend of
mine as well and works for Pinnacle too. YOUR “GO TO” INTERVIEW QUESTION? It
all depends on which position I am interviewing for. However, I do have
a consistent question I ask each candidate. “What’s the fi rst thing you
do when you come in Monday morning?” How they answer will give
me a good idea of how they operate. Do they think like an owner? Or
do they think like an employee? WHAT IS THE BEST DECISION YOU MADE IN THE LAST
SIX MONTHS? Finally deciding to get my CAMT certifi cation. WHAT CAN
DEVELOPERS DO DIFFERENTLY WHEN DESIGNING A PROPERTY? As a maintenance
person, I wish they would think more about space/locations for our
maintenance team members. E.g. shops, equipment rooms. All too
often, I come across these beautiful properties with little to no space for
shops. Pool equipment rooms have also become smaller and smaller.
Making it hard for team members to do work. IF YOU COULD LIVE IN ANY
SITCOM, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE? The Goldberg’s. It’s just a funny show. BINGE-
WATCHED EMBARRASSINGLY FAST: Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black. I
would watch a new season in a weekend. Not my proudest moment.
FIRST GUEST ON YOUR TALK SHOW: I’ve asked my Maintenance Supervisors this
same question. It would be the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He
would also play me in a movie. MOVIE TITLE BEST DESCRIBES YOUR WORK LIFE: This
might seem weird but Fight Club. In that move Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt)
challenges the status quo. Which is what I am doing. I am challenging
our maintenance team members to change the way they think. I want
them to think like owners and embrace the technology. There is so
much more involved in maintenance than just fi xing stuff . We are also
customer service reps, marketers, asset managers. You get the idea.
HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE PEOPLE? Give them ownership. I have seen that most
people want to take on more responsibilities and by giving them
ownership, they end up being motivated. FAVORITE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY?
Trust fall!!! Just kidding! I like a game called the building blocks game.
It is a play on telephone and helps you understand why communication
is so important. Reach out to me if you want me to teach it at your next
meeting. THREE FAVORITE APPS: Uber, Google weather, and Google Maps. I
travel so I really need those. BIGGEST PET PEEVE? Walking a vacant ready
apartment home and seeing paint on receptacle covers, door knobs,
strike plates, sprinkler escutcheons. You get the idea. Also, bugs in light
fi xtures. CAREER HIGHLIGHT: Being in my current position. I told my
Regional Maintenance Director when I fi rst started in industry “I want
your job” It’s been a goal of mine ever since. ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST: I
want to visit Tokyo, Japan.
