Government Affairs Saved $ 87 Million This Year
AAMD ALLIANCE
Thank You to the Contributors to the AAMD Alliance in 2017-2018!
Through the guidance of JLAC, the Government Affairs team saved the multifamily industry over $ 87 Million this year alone.
Thank you to everyone that participated in responding to emails asking for input on bills, attending meetings with elected officials, analyzing proposed legislation, assisting in writing taking points, testifying, participating in community panel discussions and attending caucus fundraising events.
The Government Affairs team lessened the financial and administrative impacts, with guidance and direction from members of the Joint Legislative Advisory Council, on industry specific bills from over 700 legislative proposals this year at the State Capitol and many adverse proposals on the local government level. Among the state legislative proposals that were defeated were limited application cap fees, source of income, Warranty of Habitability and others.
Additionally, forward movement continues with the multi-year public education campaign which focuses on educating the public on“ how housing works”, how an impact fee trickles down in to increased rent, how to read a lease, assistance resources and how to better understand housing in general.
Our team’ s effort has also grown the AAMD Alliance’ s contributions indicating that our industry’ s safeguard against harmful policies is gaining momentum to carry us into the election year.
