CAPITOL RECAP nancy burke Now's the Time to Step Up W e need your help! Each year, the Association’s government affairs team monitors over 600 pieces of legislation at the State Capitol and numerous proposed ordinances from over 40 municipalities in the Denver Metro area. Over the past five years, the Association has identified over 150 adverse legislative proposals that, if passed, would have impacted our members with increased financial and administrative burdens. In the past two election cycles, the Association has taken proactive steps on the local and state levels to contribute funds to both Democrat and Republican candidates that are supportive of the multifamily housing industry, totaling over $436,000. Our candidate selection rate was over 94% in the past state election cycle. In the 2015 Denver City Council election, we topped 84%. We continue to fund our supportive Congressional delegates and keep them current on industry issues. Through increased funding during the last election cycle, the Association was instrumental in obtaining the much needed balance at the State Capitol (Republicans now control the Senate, while the House of Representatives remain in Democrat control). This November’s election could be the most important in recent history. Democrats are poised to control the House, Senate, and the Governorship. How You Can Help By participating in the AAMD Alliance, you are investing in the livelihood of our industry by supporting candidates that are friends of our industry and assist us through smart policy decisions.
