FROM THE PRESIDENT
MIKE HOLT | LEGACY PARTNERS
Investing in your teams couldn’t be easier
this Spring
O
ur onsite teams are crucial to our
industry’s success.
While residents and vendors
are also extremely important it is our
onsite teams that are the lifeblood of our
business. They lease, maintain, manage,
console, champion and strive to keep
our communities in tip top shape for the
benefit of our residents. It is important
for us to continually invest in our teams.
Different team members need and value
different things and AAMD has a variety
of resources at your disposal to support
their needs.
For our team members looking for
training and career development, AAMD
has enhanced their educational offerings,
and provide all NAA credential programs.
CAM, CAS, NALP, CAPS and CAMT
are all offered and class schedules can
be found on the education page of the
AAMD website. They've added several
new on-site focused seminars that are
running throughout the spring and I
encourage you to visit the AAMD website
to find out more about these new courses
and the opportunity for scholarships
which may be available. I’m also extremely
excited to announce AAMD has secured
additional office space and is about to
embark on an expansion that will bring
hands on maintenance training center in
early 2019. This will be one of only a few
available in the nation.
For our team members who value
recognition, AAMD has made an effort
to bring additional opportunities to
honor our team members. February will
see our first bowling tournament which
is also an opportunity to support our
charity, Family Homestead. In April,

FEBRUARY 2019
we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of
the Maintenance Olympics event which
honors the proficiency and skills of our
maintenance professionals. What began
locally twenty years ago as a local event
has grown to include state and national
competitions culminating in the final
NAA competition each year to crown
the champions. Additionally, we have
added events throughout the year that
focus on training and celebration of our
onsite teams, including last year's new
Lease-A-Rama, which honored leasing
professionals. And just a few months ago,
hundreds of onsite community managers,
leasing professionals, maintenance techs,
housekeepers, grounds personnel and more
were honored at tributes 2018.
Finally, for our team members
who value compensation. AAMD has
completed its compensation and salary
report, which is a great resource to make
sure our employees are paid well for the
value they bring to our businesses. The
report is divided up into many different
sections such as employee tenure, unit
size and employee oversight, but sorted
by position, including Maintenance
Supervisors, Technicians, Leasing
Consultants, Manager, Assistant
Manager, Groundskeeper, Housekeeper,
Regional Manager and Executive. Each
section includes information on base
compensation and incentive-based
compensation. It also has ten years of
historical data to look at to get a good
overview of where we are as an industry.
One final thing I want to leave you
with, and I've written about it several times
before. With the National Apartment
Association's "Apartmentalize" conference
coming to Denver this June, we have the
opportunity to send our on-site teams
without the additional travel overhead of
flights, hotels and more. Since AAMD has
pre-purchased tickets in bulk, they are able
to offer a full conference package, as well
as the May 22 local Education Conference
and Trade Show, to your on-site team
for $425 each, and the commitment of
one 3-hour volunteer session per person.
(Volunteering includes standing at
information kiosks, greeting people at the
door, and other fun ways of being involved
in the conference). Since we have limited
tickets for this (about 120 total),
please contact Betty to sign up
([email protected]) or call 303-329-3300.
