THEMATIC COMMITMENTS/
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Least Developed Countries
(LDCs) reaffirmed their
committed to net zero emissions
across all countries by 2050, and
to continue working with AOSIS
in driving climate ambition.
Italy committed to enhancing
their Nationally Determined
Contributions (NDCs), despite
the challenges due to the
COVID-19 crisis, and reiterated
the EU’s commitment to submit
their enhanced NDC by 2020,
which would include emission
reductions of 55% by 2030.
The United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) reiterated
its commitment to support
Small Island Development States
(SIDS) through their enhanced
offer, which includes NDC
enhancement, and support for
COVID-19 recovery.
The Global Climate Fund (GCF)
committed to work on innovative
financial structuring with partners
to ensure that stimulus packages
do not compound the debt
burden faced by SIDS. GCF also
committed to working to increase
flexibility and improve access to
finances, especially in response to
COVID-19.
The International Renewable
Energy Agency (IRENA) reiterated
its commitment to support SIDS
through the SIDS Lighthouse
Initiative, working jointly with
UNDP and the NDC Partnership.
The United Nation’s
Secretary-General’s
(UNSG) Special
Adviser and Assistant
Secretary-General
for Climate Action

Team reaffirmed the UNSG’s
commitment for advocating for
access to finance and debt relief.
Germany reaffirmed the
commitment to continue
supporting SIDS and all partners
to enhance climate ambition, and
announced that the Petersburg
Climate Dialogue will be
proceeding as planned.
The United Kingdom (UK)
reiterated its commitment to
submit its revised NDC, as well
as to double the climate finance
which is being provided. The UK
also committed to work with
the most vulnerable countries
to enhance adaptation and
resilience, and also mobilize
climate financing aligned with the
1.5 degree Celsius goal.
