Committee Highlights

The Coalition for Outdoor Access (COA - formerly Outdoor Access Working Group) released Permit Policy Recommendations to land management agencies.

AORE formally comments on BLM request for feedback on recreation strategy.

Memorandum of Understanding signed with Big Brother Big Sisters and the Arthur Carhart Wilderness Training Center in order to increase outdoor access for underserved populations.

Chief of the US Forest Service (USFS) releases a guidance letter to streamline the current permitting process and signals a cultural shift in how the Forest Service manages recreation.

AORE Executive Director, Board Member, and Access Committee members attend the Risk Management in Outdoor Recreation Roundtable in Washington, DC to address issues such as indemnification requirements that act as a barrier to access.

AORE Executive Director, Board Member, and Access Committee members attend USFS listening session in Washington, DC to provide input on future permitting system changes.

The AORE creates an Access and Diversity Advocate volunteer position in order to maximize collaborative partnerships that affect access and inclusion opportunities for members.

Along with other COA members, the Access and Diversity Advocate presented at the SHIFT conference on recent USFS developments and the Chief’s guidance letter.

AWARDS COMMITTEE

Awarded the first Patsy Kott Service Award.

Instituted an “Award Season” to have common deadlines for all awards.

Streamlined application and review process to include more AORE members.

Increased amount of committee members and had more engagement between members.

Established relationships with vendor members to add future Professional Development Scholarships.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

Announced the first annual AORE National Day of Service to be held on Public Lands Day .

Organized a Service Project that was held at the Annual Conference at Coldwater Spring, an urban National Park.

Proposed an updated version of the Green Manual, a best practice guide for the Annual Conference.

Updated the Green Program Award designed to honor environmentally conscious member programs.
