US 2018 Season
Polito Ulloa:
“Genetics are Unbeatable”
At the 2018 US Open final, Hilario Ulloa was handed the Best Mounted Player of the
Season award on the year that he and his team managed to beat Valiente, with Adolfo
Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres playing together.
The AACCP, with our President Mr. Santiago Ballester, met with Polito and Mónica Ulloa to
speak about some of those horses and how they fell into Hilario’s hands.
SB: “Polito, tell us about the process all those
mares went through that Hilario played in the
US, where he was distinguished for the way he
was mounted.”
Polito: “Lavinia Castellana: this mare is daughter
of a thoroughbred mare that we purchased at

Melincué, Castiza, which also played the Open.
Together with Lavinia Naipe they produced this
mare. I had been invited to a tamers auction, with
average base price, tamed, and nobody raised their
hand… I brought her back home and trained her
for polo. Aged six she played the Open and Hilario
took her abroad and she won the prize to Best
