more rustic, one may say, but this is not an obstacle
to the fact that they know a horse must stop and
turn and with those two facts they get along. Now,
with the great progress achieved in break-in, and
the emergence of the snaffle, they don’t quite
understand how to manage it, and so are obtaining
a much tamer horse, but with not much of a mouth,
which is what is really needed today.
I am very grateful to the AACCP whose work I never
tire of praising, but I found the support of breeders
very limited; very few people. I thought it almost
inexplicable that in the world of horses in which we
live, there should be so few leaders, when we are
visited by world rein champions here in Argentina,
and the house is not full of people trying to learn.
In my particular case, although I work with my sons
and in a friendly atmosphere all the time, I notice
that my son brings extraordinary horses from
abroad, and so I wonder and my mind is in a whirl
all the time thinking about how to become more
perfect so as not to fall behind. To me it is a dream
that my son Hilario, who plays the Open, should
have extraordinary mares; I don’t sleep at night
thinking about why these horses don’t come from
Argentina and instead come from abroad. All this
leads me to want to learn and improve.
is incredible to think that in one day you can gather
together the experience of a person who has been
working at the same thing for 30 years. To me it is
worth its weight in gold, and all that I may be able
to contribute I feel is so little in return for being able
to count on that.
It is incredible that you work for 20 years without
anything coming to mind, and someone turns
up one day and teaches you something new that
is useful to you forever and to improve; this is
fabulous. I shall persevere.”
Santiago Ballester: “I wish to thank Sergio and
Polito for organizing this course with Jango, in
which I had the opportunity to participate and
to bring two attendees so that they may receive
instruction. I also wish to underline Polito’s humility
in wanting to continue to seek and incorporate new
techniques and exercises that make it possible to
improve break-in and training of our horses. I agree
with him regarding the presence here with us of a
person of Jango’s standing, in that breeders should
not have attended massively, making the most of
a true opportunity of sharing three days of work
and learning with two professionals of Polito and
Jango’s stature. A huge THANK YOU to them and
to Sergio Magrini.”
We are going to continue. We had a request from
Chile, but above all it is I who am interested in
meeting extraordinary people who live in other
parts of the world and practice rein disciplines, they
work with the horse’s mouth, which is our concern
and what we must reach out to with the polo pony,
because I think the genetics issue is already under
control.
Whoever thinks they don’t need this, no worries,
but I find it fun to go on looking and learning from
all those people who have so much to give us, and
people who come and tell us of their experience. It
