MG: “Do you believe that the Breeders’
Association should head towards closing the
Breed or not?”
APH: “I think it’s good to continue with the mares
and new stallions, because fresh blood comes in
handy. Blood clashes…”
MG : “Continue to add on?”
APH: “Above all racehorses, which after 200 years
of selection are a superior breed in racing aptitude
at least. What we must add is sensitivity.”
MG: “And do you think that the day will come
in which the AAP (Argentine Polo Association)
will demand that those that play certain
tournaments must be registered ponies, or
doesn’t that matter?”
APH: “I am against limiting everything; prohibiting…
The Argentine people were great because they
were free. The breeding of horses that we have
achieved, the best breed of horses in the world,
was free. The Association was not created to limit,
quite the contrary, it was created to contribute
towards the breeders’ efforts.”
MG: “Talking a little about freedom, putting
breeding aside, you have a theory that the
Israelite people suffered a lot throughout
history. Why?”
APH: “There are no horses in the Bible. The
Hebrew people were always suppressed, but they
had no horses. Only King Solomon had an army
of fourteen thousand horses, but perhaps he was
not Pure, a son of King David and Bathsheba, the
wife or Uriah who was Turkish, and the fourteen
thousand horses in the army, according to the
Bible, had been purchased in Siscily and in Hittite
territory, which is Turkey.
He was the most powerful King of Israel. They
were put down by the Romans, and these were full
of horses. Our Gospels never mention the word
horse. St. Luke says ‘Wounded, he mounted on
his saddle’, in the Good Samaritan (and he was a
Samaritan, not a Hebrew). It is as though they have
been careful not to name horses in the Gospels.
Maybe the Bible mentions horses in some vision or
dream; or the prophets talk of horses, but always
in enemy hands. I may sound racist but it is not the
case at all. I have great admiration for the Hebrew
culture.”
BB: “Alberto, if you had to name your best
mare, was it Purita?”
APH: “No, unfortunately the best was Rosa, which
I sold to Brazil and later recovered, but I was never
able to breed from her. With Rosa and Purita I
reached my 10-goal handicap rating.”
MG: “Were those two related?”
APH: “No, no. Eduardo Harriott gave me Rosa. When
I tried her out I said: ‘Your mare is phenomenal’
and he answered: ‘your mare’, and gave her to me.
The Molinari’s didn’t dare play her and told me that
if I braved her out she must be extremely good.
Also because of her excess sensitivity; I don’t
know why, but she was phenomenal. I sold her
to Brazil, got her back, but was not able to breed
from her. That’s why the best were Rosa, Purita
and Pureza which is as good, or better than they
were.”
