A polo player is always grateful for a good horse, and not only its own, but also those it may
admire from the stands time after time. Those whose heart is in that last run in overtime;
those that help the player time and again to win that impossible play; those whose mouth
is a docile continuation of the hand that guides it.
Some horses make history. And in honor of those horses, our Association has taken the
initiative of preserving their images and memories for every generation. To that end it has
created the Hall of Fame, which shall be inhabited in digital form and in the words of those
who knew them, by the most brilliant specimens of Argentine polo.
Players who have attained the maximum rating selected the best horses of all time, and those
who were closest to them, described them at interviews that we have kept. From the Harriotts,
Heguys and Dorignacs, to Gonzalo Pieres and Adolfo Cambiaso, they have all given their
opinion and related what they know about those horses that set the direction and goal we
wish to reach as breeders and which many may have mounted at least with their imagination.
Thanks to the generosity of Indio Muerto S.A. it was possible to create videos of Cuartetera,
Marsellesa and Luna. And others shall follow, in order to register all the chosen mares that
have already played and also those to come.
We have done many things throughout 2017 that are very valuable for our activity, but we
feel that the Hall of Fame embraces a projection that is worth highlighting specially.
In the North of Argentina, in Tucumán, where we landed with a course for Grooms and
Break-In courses, a silent revolution has occurred. With several breeders raising the quality
of their work and of their horses, we find today an exemplary focal point that irradiates
towards all the other regions of the country with surprising results, comparable with the
best breeds.
It is possible! As the political slogan reads… and Tucumán is proving it.
Aside from this, we have continued working in close cooperation with this government that
opens its doors to many initiatives. Although it is also true that the equine sporting activity
has lost its traditional exemption from taxes during this administration. Our Association was
taken by surprise by this measure, which we were not consulted on, but we are now trying
at least to have the VAT reduced so as to bring some relief to the load related to this activity.
Also included in this Year Book is a collection interview with Alberto Pedro Heguy which we
hope you will enjoy, and many other interesting notes on genetics; break-in; on how to care
for hooves and many more things that help us all to go on learning.
