It is with great enthusiasm that we present this new Year Book, because 2016 featured
a change in the context in which our activity is carried out as a result of the new gov-
ernment’s releasing the exchange rate and eliminating export taxes that weighed upon
the sale of polo ponies abroad. There are still some obstacles to be removed, such as
the valuation for customs purposes which is exaggeratedly high regarding the price of
low-goal horses, but together with other related associations, and in open dialog with
Customs, we hope to continue improving export conditions.
2016 was also a year in which clones successfully burst into the highest competitions.
Nothing will ever be the same again for breeders, because there is now another alterna-
tive to enable them to preserve genetics that before were lost, and that possibility leads
them to reflect upon each one’s strategy.
On the other hand we know that this invasion of clones generated conflict; uncertainty
and claims. Our Association is attentive to all of these and, if applicable, shall go pro-
posing regulation changes that may help diminish these feelings in the appropriate
sphere, which does not reach the polo field, where horse entry is absolutely free. And
looking into the future, it will be the breeders themselves who will already have in mind
the possibility of cloning their products and will take all necessary precautions when
they sell them.
