Juan Martín Nero : “ She keeps up the same pace all through the chukka ; she doesn ’ t tire .”

The Argentine Open at Palermo ended with La Dolfina at the very top in the history of Polo . Juan Martín Nero celebrated this victory and that of a new Triple Crown , the third in a row together with his mates from the Cañuelas team . In between so many joyful moments for the player , it was time for the awards to the horses , and both prizes at the Open final went to him . Falta Nut received the Lady Susan Townley award , and Oli Chicha the horse blanket to the Best Polo Argentino Pony of the 2015 Season .
Oli Chicha not only received prizes in other tournaments in Argentina , but also in Europe , where in 2013 she was granted the horse blanket to the best Polo Argentino Pony of the British season . Additionally , she was nominated several times in Triple Crown tournaments from 2010 up until this last season .
“ How is it that Oli Chicha arrives at your stables ?” Juan Martín Nero : “ I bought her off Daniel Lucero five years ago . She is a mare I love . I played her two years in the UK and she received prizes at the Queen ’ s Cup and the award to the Best Horse of the Season .”
“ And after that you brought her to Argentina to play the Triple Crown ?” J . M . N : “ First I took her to the United States . Last year I took her to Palm Beach , but wasn ’ t able to play her because she had trouble in one of her forelegs . After that I did bring her here .”
“ How do you feel she performed this season ? J . M . N .: “ One of her greatest assets is speed . When you start off from the back you feel very confident because of her capacity to accelerate , and as she starts off with a bang , I can put a good distance between myself and the other horses . Also she has a very soft mouth and keeps her pace throughout the chukka ; she doesn ’ t tire .”
“ What chukkas did you play her in the final and why ?” J . M . N .: “ I played her in the fourth for four or five minutes and then again in the eighth , where she also played for four minutes . In the fourth I played her not only to get her moving properly , but also because it was the moment in which Milo asked us to try to widen our advantage over our opponents on the score board as compared to what had been happening in the first chukkas . In the eighth , because I wanted to play on a mare which made me feel confident , and the truth is , I don ’ t know why I got off her , because she was ready to play more .”
