Palo Santo
And now we welcome
the new year,
The Magical Tree
Words by Carly Gouweloos
Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of
South America. Its Spanish name directly translates into
“Holy Wood” and similar to sage, it is held sacred for
its energetically cleansing and healing properties. These
elements make Palo Santo a common facilitator of ceremonies by Shamans and Medicine people. It provides a
wonderfully sweet and woodsy aroma that can be enjoyed
even when unlit.
full of things
that have never been.
Palo Santo is traditionally used in South America as an
antiseptic and to remove impurities from the skin and
body. It is also used to clearMaria Rilke and
-Rainer homes of “bad energy”
to ultimately welcome in positive and prosperous vibes.
This uplifting scent raises
your vibration and is useful
in preparation for meditation as it allows for a deeper
connection to Source. It is
also said that Palo Santo enhances creativity and brings
good fortune to those who
are open to its magic. When
burned, the smoke of the
Palo Santo wood creates an
environment of peace.
Palo Santo can be used for relieving common colds, flus,
asthma, anxiety, depression, inflammation and emotional
pain1. As an essential oil, it is very useful for physical pain
and inflammation as it contains high levels of D-Limonene and Monotropenes. These are also useful for the
treatment of cancer symptoms.
When burned, Palo Santo can also act as a natural and
effective repellent for mosquitoes2. Its pleasant aroma is
a plus when it comes to finding an insect repellent that is
enjoyable to smell.
As you can see, Palo Santo is flourishing with benefits for
each and every person. It can be found in small and large
bundles at The Waterview Space (150 Dunlop Street East,
Unit 106) for $5 and $10 with hopes that everyone can
have the opportunity to share in the magic of this tree.
