Arkema Thiochemicals Universiti Utara Malaysia The Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Tunku Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy ratified a collaboration to undertake research and educational innovation programs that will contribute to the socioeconomic development of the state of Kedah and the nation. The campus signed a research collaboration agreement with Arkema Thiochemicals. Arkema is a world leader in producing sulphur-based chemicals, and will fund a three-year research program at a total cost of RM3 million to develop a cleaner and cost-effective process to produce thiochemicals through a biocatalytic process. This is a multi-disciplinary endeavour involving expertise in molecular biology, enzyme engineering, biocatalysis and chemical engineering. Sunway Real Estate Investment Trust Monash researchers from the Global Asia in the 21st Century multidisciplinary research platform examined the competitiveness of Sunway Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) in the domestic and international markets. Sime Darby Research Sdn Bhd A joint collaboration with Sime Darby Research was initiated for a project on the sterilisation of fresh palm oil fruits using microwaves. Oracle Sdn Bhd With this agreement, Monash will be able to run Oracle certification workshops on campus for our students, adding value to their learning experience. Forecasting Malaysia’s GDP SysCode Sdn Bhd A new econometric forecasting model was developed for local states that measures and tracks the short-, medium- and long-term performances of the Malaysian economy from 2018 to 2047. The model provides valuable insights into electricity demand planning and supply for the nation. A hands-on workshop on the new forecasting model was conducted for research analysts from Single Buyer and RAM Consultancy Services. Moving forward, researchers intend to develop GDP forecasting models for Malaysia according to the economic activity at national and state levels. Students will take on industrial-based final-year projects with the software company to solve actual blockchain- related issues. SysCode will also be delivering technical seminars on campus, providing training placements, and employing high-performing students. 50
