Perdana Fellowship
Laveenyah Yuvarajah, a
second-year Business student,
was one of 60 fellows selected
for the 2018 Perdana Fellowship.
The fellowship allows bright
young Malaysians to step up and
be personally involved in the
leadership of the nation and
contribute to nation-building.
Laveenyah’s three-month stint
as a Perdana Fellow will see her
attached to the Ministry of Home
Affairs, under the supervision of
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Steven Lim, a fifth-year Medical student
at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine
and Health Sciences, successfully
completed an internship at the World
Health Organization’s headquarters in
Geneva. Steven was the only Malaysian
selected for the two-month internship,
a highly competitive program with a
waiting period of more than a year. He
returned with valuable insights into
different aspects of public health,
including how vital effective
communication is in maintaining
political stability and dealing efficiently
with urgent issues.
First-year undergraduate publishes Q1 paper
Young Scholars Program student Muhammad Faiz Arief has published a Q1, IF:4.4
paper on Frontiers as a first author. The journal article titled ‘A Systematic Review on
Non-mammalian Models in Epilepsy Research’ was co-authored with Dr Mohmad
Farooq Shaikh, Dr Yatinesh Kumari, Brandon Choo and Jia Ling Yap. Muhammad Faiz
is currently in his first year of the Bachelor Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine
program at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
KPMG Malaysia and CPA Australia Undergrad
Challenge: Student to Strategist
Ho Wei Chuan, Tan Ching Yuew and Tan Khai Wen from the School of Business were
given full-time positions with KPMG Malaysia, a day of job shadowing a KPMG senior
management member, and a CPA Program subject fee waiver for winning the
challenge organised by KPMG Malaysia and CPA Australia. The challenge required the
students to showcase their skills in applying business, finance/accounting and
strategic thinking knowledge to a case study challenge.
Sir John Monash Medal
Tan En Yi from the School of Engineering
was awarded the prestigious Sir John
Monash Medal for her outstanding
contribution to projects under the
Engineers Without Borders student
chapter between years 2015 and 2017.
The Sir John Monash Medal is awarded
annually to recognise final-year
undergraduate students with extraordinary
academic achievement and who
demonstrated significant commitment,
while at Monash, to advancing the
University's goals of social justice, human
rights and a sustainable environment.

Reckitt Benckiser Global Challenge
Monash's Team Ikigai bagged the 1st Runner-Up prize at the Reckitt Benckiser Global
Challenge. Team members Charmaine Yeo, Yip Yuee Yern and Michelle Lee from the
School of Business were part of seven teams from Malaysia and Singapore to compete
in the national finals.
