Education: Teacher Programs Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Civil War Washington Teacher Fellows summer institutes are two week-long programs that offer educators the skills and resources to teach about Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Civil War Washington in dynamic, engaging ways. Hosted in partnership with the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, President Lincoln’s Cottage and Tudor Place Historic House and Garden, teachers visit all four sites, take part in an array of virtual tours and performances, and develop strategies to hone students’ oratory and critical thinking skills. “There was not an aspect of this program that did not deliver the experience of a lifetime. I don’t know if there is a seminar out there that combines historical place and teaching tools as well as this one does!” -Darrin Comstock, Omaha, NE Civil War Washington Teacher Fellows participants who found their summer resources helpful in curriculum planning, increasing content knowledge and personal growth. 100% of Fellows reported their experience led to personal growth, increased knowledge, or enhanced curriculum.
