2015 Achievements
Community Services
Healthy Communities
The provincial government invested $375,000 in forty-nine local government and partner projects through the BC
Healthy Community Capacity Building Fund. The Lake Country Health Planning Society undertook a Lake Countryspecific Community Needs Assessment, and the $4,000 funding allocation through the BC Healthy Communities
Society assisted in getting it accomplished in 2015.
The information gathered from this Community Needs Assessment will assist the District with a number of plans and
documents that have a health component including: the Transportation for Tomorrow Plan, Official Community
Plan and the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan. Lake Country also began a new Parks and Recreation Master
Plan in 2015 and the results of the health needs assessment will be useful for that document.
Development Cost Charges Bylaw Update Initiated
In 2015, staff initiated an update to the Development Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw. DCC’s are monies that are collected
from land developers, by a municipality, to offset some of the infrastructure expenditures incurred, to service the
needs of new development. They allow monies to be pooled from many developments so that funds can be raised
to construct the necessary services in an equitable manner.
The majority of the background research and outreach occurred throughout 2015, with both the public and
development community involved in contributing towards the DCC Bylaw update.
