WHAT IS STAGING THE FUTURE?
Created by The American Theatre Guild, Staging the Future (STF) enables under-served young people to experience
live musical theatre in the cities we serve. The program is funded by the generosity of The American Theatre Guild
season members.
More than partially or fully covering the cost of tickets to a show, STF funding assists with study guides, post-show
talks and master classes which fully engage student groups. In many cases, these young people have never entered
a theater or attended a touring Broadway show. For these children, this is the beginning of a life filled with love and
passion for the performing arts.
In the 2018-19 season, Staging the Future awarded more than $18,000 in grants that allowed 1700 students to
experience all of the magic of touring Broadway
• In Phoenix, at the historic Orpheum Theatre,
350 students experienced the Broadway classics
CHICAGO and EVITA, laughed along with Elle Woods
in LEGALLY BLONDE - The Musical and created
lasting memories at SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN: In Concert.
• In Birmingham at BJCC Concert Hall, 133 students
found out the story behind the story with FINDING
NEVERLAND, shared the holidays with Charlie
Brown and all his friends and learned about strength
of character with THE KING AND I.
• Nearly 300 young people from all over the Kansas City
metro area rocked out with the kids from SCHOOL OF
ROCK, experienced the breathtaking classic THE SOUND
OF MUSIC and travelled back in time with ANASTASIA.
• In partnership with the Riverside Foundation, more
than 500 students not only experienced Rodger’s
& Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA, EVITA, KINKY
BOOTS and CHICAGO, but took part in master classes
ranging from dance and audition workshops to panel
discussions about careers in theater beyond the stage.
• In Santa Barbara, we shared the magic of Rodger’s
& Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA, the beauty of THE
SOUND OF MUSIC and a little history with EVITA.
• More than 100 area students had a chance to get loud
with STOMP at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
• Elementary students in Wichita had the chance to learn
nothing is “Impossible” with Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s
CINDERELLA at Century II Concert Hall.
