Sports can teach valuable lessons about discipline , teamwork , and most importantly , the respect that comes with inclusion . These benefits are universal for all individuals , including those with disabilities . Empowering individuals with disabilities with an I can do spirit is the goal of USASF ’ s Exceptional Athlete Division .
Three cheer and two dance teams of Exceptional Athletes attended the 2021 Cheerleading and Dance World Championships . Also in 2021 , the USASF Scholarship Program introduced and awarded the first Exceptional Athlete Scholarship .
The Exceptional Athlete Committee will continue to enhance opportunities for EA athletes and coaches in 2022 . The development of an EA credentialing program for coaches will help ensure that athletes receive the best training and care . Exceptional Athletes participating in the 2022 Cheerleading and Dance Worlds will enjoy the return of the Exceptional Athlete Gala .
For the 2021-22 season , 709 Exceptional Athletes are rostered on 76 CheerABILITIES and seven DanceABILITIES teams .
