Governance
Of the many changes this year, perhaps the governance and operation of the organisation has seen the greatest area of change.
Dr Ricky Joseph was appointed by the board as Chair and under his direction we have brought in all of the skills we have seen as necessary to effectively run the organisation. This includes financial expertise, IT and infrastructure, organisational, banking, risk management and project management.
The board have carried out a wide-ranging strategy review and revised its committee structure aimed at making these more active and function more efficiently. The following are now the committees:
Audit and Risk Committee – overseeing both financial and risk management of the organisation.
HR Committee – overseeing all areas that affect employees and volunteer staff of the organisation, including recruitment, remuneration, training & development, performance appraisal, etc.
Programme Board – overseeing the projects that the organisation needs to deliver.
During the year the Board invited the CEO to become a member of the board. Below the board sits a management team which reports to Andy Carswell, who is the Chief Operating and Risk Officer. Andy brings over 30 years of banking expertise and experience.
We are also committed to recruiting effectively, bringing in the right skills as we require them, and continuing the trend over the past 5 years to train and develop our team.
We are confident in our governance and in particular our approach to risk management and compliance which is now deeply ingrained into the organisation at all levels. We have invested in a Compliance and Risk Management System, which is online and interactive, and places responsibility with all staff members as befits a highly regulated and responsible organisation.
Overall, as the CEO, I am very proud of the progress Citysave has made this year, which is the 5th year under my management. I believe we are well placed to deliver widely in our city, and to be an active part of a financial services sector, where service is the key driver and which operates genuinely for the benefit of our members.
Going forward, I expect to be driving projects that will see us working more closely in partnership or other forms of collaboration with many organisations for the wider benefit of a community that needs us. At all times I will be mindful that this work is beneficial to Citysave and its members.
