On Saturday , June 11 , Big Top launched its 30th Anniversary Season with a grand celebration .
Our own Blue Canvas Orchestra combined with 30 members of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra in a performance featuring songs from our favorite original shows , illustrated by big screen visuals , plus other classical works . During the daytime we offered a portion of the performance to the public in a free matinee . And in the evening , we launched the " Mosaic of Picnics " to go along with the concert . Guests either packed their own picnic supper and decorated their tables ( and sometimes themselves ) or they ordered a pre-packaged picnic from the Mt . Ashwabay Grill or the Fat Radish . Prizes were given to the most creative and most elegant picnics with The Goldbergs , The Govers , The Manleys and The Durfeys getting the nod from the celebrity judges . A champagne toast was led by Mary Rice , and the candles on the 30th Anniversary cake were blown out by Big Top royalty . It was a magical and memorable evening worthy of the occasion . Special thanks to Memorial Medical Center for their generous sponsorship of the occasion .
