Mount Auburn is committed to preserving the Cemetery’ s many man-made features within the landscape, as well as the records and objects in our historical collections that help us to better understand and interpret the story of this nationally significant historic landscape.
During the past fiscal year:
• The Scots’ Charitable Society Lot fence was brought to Cassidy Bros. Forge in Rowley, MA for a full restoration including the casting of long-missing elements.
• Several cast iron fences along Central Ave were cleaned and repainted, further reinforcing our investment in preserving the legacy of the 62 remaining iron fences within Mount Auburn’ s landscape
• To create a foundation for the Digital Business Transformation Initiative, we completed item-level inventories of all active Cemetery records, institutional archives, and historical collections records and objects in the Administration Building Upstairs Vault( 400 LF / 300 CU FT), Downstairs Vault( 600 LF / 300 CU FT), and Office( 300 LF / 300 CU FT) for a total of 1300 Linear Feet of records, equivalent to the length of nearly half a mile, or four-and-a-half football fields.
• We completed the first project of the Digital Business Transformation Initiative by working with our vendor to digitize 112 boxes of the Lot Work Order Cards and creating 148,768 digital files. A total of 184,651 digital files have been completed this fiscal year.
