LEGACY OF HOPE
While 2020 brought unexpected challenges , Legacy of Hope never closed and continues to facilitate organ and tissue donation .
“ We are grateful to our hardworking frontline staff for continuing to go above and beyond during this challenging time ,” says Chris Meeks , Legacy of Hope executive director . “ The work of finance , quality , public education , administration , aftercare , and process improvement continues to keep our organization moving forward in support of our mission .”
In February 2020 , Legacy of Hope was honored to be selected to receive the Alabama Performance Excellence Award . This award is modeled after the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award and honors organizations whose recent innovations resulted in increased productivity and quality within the organization . This is the highest award designation given at the state level and a major milestone for Legacy of Hope .
Legacy of Hope hosted its first walk , the Donor Dash for Life 5K , in May 2020 . Despite converting the event to a virtual walk , over 70 registrants raised more than $ 3,500 to support our public education efforts . We are looking forward to what we will achieve with the 2021 walk .
Also , we are proud of our Tissue Work System , which was recognized for the quality of its work by CryoLife , one of our tissue processor partners .
Legacy of Hope continues to be amazed at the generosity of the human spirit . Despite the chaos in the world , we are inspired by the families who choose to help complete strangers through organ , eye , and tissue donation .
