UAB HOSPITAL
The center of UAB ’ s clinical enterprise , UAB Hospital is located in Birmingham ’ s medical district . In the midst of UAB ’ s major research centers and clinics , the 1,157-licensed-bed hospital is among the largest and bestequipped in the nation . We provide patients with a complete range of primary and specialty care services and the most up-todate treatments and innovations in health care . Here , patients receive tomorrow ’ s medicine today for both routine and complex diagnoses . As a major center for clinical research , patients may be offered treatments at UAB Hospital that are unavailable elsewhere in the area .
THE KIRKLIN CLINIC OF UAB HOSPITAL
Opened in 1992 , The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital is a specially designed “ superclinic ” for outpatient care , housing more than 600 physicians in 35 specialties and serving more than 2,000 patients each day . It is one of the busiest outpatient centers in America and is world-renowned for its focus on compassion , dedication , and excellence for patients and their families .
UAB KIDNEY AND PANCREAS TRANSPLANT CLINIC
In 2012 , UAB opened the new UAB Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Clinic , providing a new home for world-class patient care . A successful organ transplant begins with a detailed pre-transplant evaluation , followed by surgery , and continues with comprehensive post-transplant care for the remainder of the recipient ’ s life . The transplant clinic provides for excellent care from UAB ’ s multidisciplinary team of surgeons , nephrologists , nurses , transplant coordinators , counselors , and social workers . Educational materials , classes , and one-on-one teaching sessions provide the support and knowledge necessary for a successful transplant . The facility features four examination suites , 14 examination rooms , private consultation rooms , treatment rooms , and on-site laboratory collection .
